In a candid interview with Ebenezer Amuzu on Hot 93.9FM’s ‘Focal Sports,’ Wilfred Osei Palmer disclosed his initial resolve to obstruct Thomas Partey’s professional ascent. Palmer recounted how Partey, then with Tema Youth, had kept him in the dark about his imminent transfer to Spain.
Palmer revealed, “Moses Odjer stepped in and stopped me from making a decision that could have derailed Thomas Partey’s career… I was set on doing so. When he was on the verge of traveling to Spain, he told me he had a stomach ache while playing for Tema Youth and couldn’t continue. I found out later that he was, in fact, leaving that night to sign with Atletico Madrid.”
Tema Youth, a once-celebrated Ghanaian football club known for nurturing talents like Thomas Partey and Joseph Paintsil, has seen a dramatic fall from grace, now competing in the third division. This decline is linked to a financial conflict stemming from Joseph Paintsil’s transfer to a Belgian team. Tema Youth failed to reimburse Young Red Bulls, another club involved in the deal. Consequently, the Court of Arbitration for Sport decreed that they pay a substantial penalty to the Ghanaian football association, which Tema Youth chose not to comply with.
