A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament has paid a courtesy call on former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to pledge their support for his bid to lead the party into the 2028 presidential election.
The visit comes as the NPP gears up for its presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
So far, four prominent party figures have declared their intention to contest the flagbearer position: former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
According to the MPs, more than 60 out of the 88 NPP parliamentarians are backing Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.
Among those who visited him are key party figures and ministers, including Mohammed Amin Adam, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Sammi Awuku, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Habib Iddrisu, and Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah.
The delegation is currently engaged in a closed-door meeting with Dr. Bawumia.
