Pay outstanding funds before schools reopen – CHASS urges govt

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) is urging the government to settle outstanding debts owed to schools before they reopen for the 2025 academic year. This move aims to ensure that schools have the necessary funds to operate effectively and provide quality education to students.

In a communiqué signed by CHASS’ National Secretary, Primus Baro, the conference referenced earlier correspondences dated September 20, 2024, and August 12, 2024, as well as assurances given by the Minister of Education during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024, all of which failed to be implemented.

CHASS’s request highlights the importance of timely funding for schools, especially considering the challenges they face in managing resources. The government’s prompt attention to this matter can help alleviate some of the financial burdens on schools, allowing them to focus on academic excellence and student well-being.
