The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), together with the party’s flagbearer and legal team, has begun an emergency meeting to review the court judgment in respect of its Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in connection with the Samreboi mining case.
Chairman Wontumi has been sentenced to twenty years imprisonment by an Accra High Court on July 20 for mining related offences.
The meeting is aimed at assessing the implications of the court’s decision and determining the party’s next course of action.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday, July 20, 2026, NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong said the leadership was carefully reviewing the judgment and would communicate its official position after the deliberations.
“The Party will communicate its official position and the decisions arising from these deliberations in due course,” he said.
Kodua Frimpong also called on party members to remain calm, united and disciplined as the leadership engages on the matter.
He urged members to continue supporting the party’s leadership, stressing the need for unity and commitment to the values and interests of the NPP.
The court judgment involving Mr Boasiako, a prominent figure within the party, has drawn attention within political circles, with the NPP expected to outline its response after the leadership meeting.
